The Historic Ipswich Riverwalk project was years in the making and was a collaborative effort between the Ipswich Partnership, the Town of Ipswich, and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Major corporate contributors, EBSCO Publishing and the Quebec-Labrador Foundation, provided easements for access to the pedestrian bridge and walkways.

Long awaited construction began on the Riverwalk in April 2004 and was completed in the Fall of 2006. The Riverwalk consists of a pocket park, a pedestrian bridge, and a riverside walkway. The north entrance is located at Faith's Garden pocket park across from the Memorial Common on South Main Street (Route 1A). A twelve-foot wide pedestrian bridge crosses the Ipswich River just below the old hosiery mill dam to a walkway and plazas on the south side. The walkway continues along the river passing shade structures, benches, and an exciting new mural depicting 350 years of Ipswich history before exiting south onto Union Street. This is a wonderful place to stroll, eat lunch, view the art, or just to relax and enjoy the flowing river.
